Gardens

This section looks at the Garden accounts for the early C19, when the old Kitchen Gardens were converted to the Italian Garden. The Head Gardeners at Belton are elucidated.

Edited extracts from the Belton Establishment Ledger 1813-18. There are no accounts immediately before January 1813, or after December 1818 until 1825. There are references to the propagation of peaches, pineapples and figs, and to the new Kitchen Garden on the site of the current Belton Garden Centre.

The 1813 section covers more the building of the Italian Garden with mention of the earlier, new Kitchen Gardens. The 1825 section records the gardens' maintenance through use of numerous Grantham tradesmen and the Grantham Canal.
